He graduated from Maryland Institute of Art, and studied under the reknowned teacher Jacques Maroger. In 1944 he volunteeered in the US Merchant Marines and continued to paint subjects from his trips to Europe and the Mediterranean. Weintrabu arrived in Palestine in 1948 and fought the War of Independence, after a brief internment in Cyprus. Following a stint in the Israeli Merchant Navy he settled in Tel-Aviv in 1955 where he gave all his time to painting. Weintraub has had many successful one-man shows and participated in group exhibitions all over the world including New York, Pierre Matisse Gallery. His paintings are also in the Israel Museum, Jerusalem. |

He spent much time with his grandfather in Dzieweniszky, a small Lithuanian shtetl with its “chata”(delapidated wooden houses). It was this homely and pious life sparkled with traditional events which inspired him to paint. After studying in Paris at the Ecole de Beaux Arts and working there for 20 years, he emigrated to Safed, Israel.
